[comp.sys.mac] side question

allbery@NCoast.ORG (Brandon S. Allbery) (09/04/89)

A small side question:

Could someone enlighten me as to Mac development environments? I recently
made the decision to get off my PClone ASAP and move to the Mac; this opens
the possibility of doing software development (which I refused to do under A
Certain Unnameable OS).

My style of work is that I quite often build programs for myself to do useful
things, then once they've served their purpose (or started to do so...
usually, the program's usefulness is ongoing) I'll release it for others to
use, as freeware. (On the theory that the program hasd already paid for
itself -- otherwise there'd be no point in distributing it -- so why should I
charge?)

Any suggestions? Is it worthwhile for me to join APDA? Should I just go buy
myself a commercial compiler (and in what language? I am more familiar with C
but can and do work in Pascal)?

Please note the Followup-To: poster -- *mail* replies. If there is interest
(although I don't know how many other people work the way I do...) I'll
summarize.

Thanks in advance. (and thank G*d ncoast finally gets c.s.mac!)
