That sounds like TOPS.  TOPS will flash the most upper-left pixel on the
screen as an 'in-use' indicator.  If you are accessing files accross the
network (or someone else is accessing your files) this pixel will flash.

Silverlining, the software used to format LaCie drives uses a scheme of
flashing the top left most 3 pixels to indicate the drive access. If you
have a LaCie drive, that's it.
