I have recently obtained a copy of LaserWriter 6.0 and have been using it to drive a QMS ColorScript 100 printer. In general I am pleased with the results; the QMS creates much nicer color prints than my group's Tektronix 4693 DX color printer which is not PostScript driven. Unfortunately, I have uncovered some bugs in LaserWriter 6.0. I have a certain MacDraw II drawing, from a co worker, that is of moderate complexity -- the drawing is constructed from several overlapping ellipses and rectangles. When I attempt to print it from MacDraw II or from other applications where I have pasted it, it typically refuses to print; everything appears to be progressing ok, and then it gives up without an error message. Rarely, with some applications (I don't recall which ones at the moment), it will give me an error message to the effect that there is a PostScript Error, but that the document is OK. When I use the command-K option to produce a PostScript file and attempt to print that with SendPS, I get an error message indicating that there is a 'stackunderflow'. These errors do not depend on the printer; I get the same errors/messages when I attempt to print the drawing in 'Grayscales' on my LaserWriter Plus. I have run across a second bug; when I attempt to print a colored, filled polygon (ie. using the polygon tool in MacDraw II), the fill color that is printed nowhere near matches the actual color in the polygon. The fill colors are correct when the rectangle or ellipse tool is used instead. Like others on the net, I would also like to see a means of making the default Print Job option to be Black & White rather than Color/Grayscales; most of my printing is in black and white. Apparently, myPageSetup 1.2, just posted to 'comp.binaries.mac' is unable to make this change; it also puts the 'disk file' option under some existing text in the LaserWriter 6.0 dialog box.
