Hi again. Another question from me. (One of these days someone will ask one I know the answer to! :-) ) The upgrade to Word 4.0 for the educational version didn't come with manuals. (They were extra, so it was only a free upgrade if you didn't want manuals.) Figuring that there would no doubt be books written on Word 4, and that they would no doubt be clearer than the manual, and that such a book would probably be cheaper than the $35 that MicroSoft wanted for the manuals, we decided to "Just say 'No.'" Now that everyone has had a chance to use Word 4 for a while, here's my question: What is a good general reference on Word 4? Preferably something with a good index and good, thorough explanations of the various features of Word 4 and how to use them. -- Geoff Allen - WINCO Computer Process Engineering {uunet, bigtex}!pmafire!geoff <or> ucdavis!egg-id!pmafire!geoff Disclaimer: WINCO doesn't believe in Macs, so of course these are my views.

.
Microsoft Press publishes something called (I think) _Working with Word_. I
have the 3.x version of this book and I find it to be clear, concise, and
extremely helpful. I have seen the 4.x version around, but haven't gotten
to buy it yet. I think the price is around 22.95 ($).

The one that my training friends recommend is "Word 4 Companion" by the Cobb Group. I forget the author's name. --- Alex

?? Has anyone tried IPT's Personal Server Network software? Looks interesting IF it can perform with heavy duty apps like 4D. Please send me mail as I don't get on the net as often as I would like.... Thanx, -Walter.

I have found "Word4 Companion" from the Cobb group to be quite complete. It is widely available in such chains as Daltons and Waldenbooks. Mike Arons CCNY arons@sci.ccny.cuny.edu

It's an excellent tutorial on the various features of Word 4.0, taught one at a time. I would also recommend buying at least one copy of the reference manual as well -- almost without exception, the best tutorials are not the best reference manuals, and vice versa. Learn Word with the tutorial, use Word with the reference manual. Bill Cramer IEX Corporation Plano, Texas {uunet, convex, attctc}!iex!cramer
