I have seem several request for programs by various people. The usual reply is for this person to contact a site where these programs are archived, log on as anonymous and then download the program. I have probably left out half of the steps. Could someone e-mail me information on how to contact an ftp site( is that the right name?) I am rather new at this, I just learned how to download a binary and convert it. Thanks in advance THE OPINIONS HERE ARE TRUE. FTP stands for "File Transfer Protocal" and is a command usually found
in the network (arpanet/internet) tools collection. You type
$ ftp xxx
where xxx is the remote machine's name or internet address, and,
presumably the one you are connecting to allows "anonymous" login's.
Ftp will let people calling themselve "anonymous" in under a restricted
shell where you can move around in a small area, and down (sometimes up
also)-load programs.
Oh yeah- when it asks for a password, type "guest" or your name, or
anything else more than zero characters long.

P.S., I figure you can use this, so here is my list of anonymous ftp
sites, which is pretty much accuracte...
Note: if you don't have anonymous FTP access yourself but you
are a uunet customer, they will FTP stuff for you and then uucp
it to you.
