Got a Mac puzzle for you. I am hardware advisor for these
absolute Mac neophytes.

One of them is having a strange problem. HIST: her mouse and
keyboard both <!!> went out <together> 2-3 weeks ago. Both are
now fixed. Suddenly yesterday as she entered her stuff, ALL
fields on the FILE entry screen were BOLD, numerics and all. I
had her bring up WORD and all text entered there is also BOLD.
Checked the format pull-down and it is <Plain Text>, and bold
is NOT checked. Could this be a parameter RAM problem? It
certainly is a new one on me if it is. Remember she is still on
a venerable Hyperdrive and is in sys 3.2 (if I remember right).
Also she is hearing a new sound as the drive spins up. GULP!
bad bearings in the HD? Sound probably NOT connected to
bolding. Happens intermittently, for some time now.
Further. FILE = MS File 1.05 with a custom entry screen
we designed some years ago. No problems with it, EVER. We
still use the old Hyperdrives because they just run and run.
It is now approaching the time to upgrade though, but I doubt
it is a problem with old systems, since they have been running
with them and with old software for almost 4 years now
without the slightest problem.
I can have her pull the battery and zap the PRAM overnight
if you think it might be that. Otherwise, I will have her take
it in and swap the logic board, or the analog, or both. We have
AppleCare, so it is free.
     Any ideas are welcome! HELP!
