[comp.sys.mac] Postscript ==> Laserwriter I

genemans@mac.dartmouth.edu (Jan Genemans) (09/08/89)

This may seem like a rather simple question, but I cannot figure out how
to do this. I have some postscript files that have been downloaded from
a UNIX machine, that was consequently generated there. I have tried using
MS Word in the postscript mode to print these files, but to no avail the
printer just sits blinking there for several minutes and ejects a single
blank page. Is there any PD or Shareware program that will dump a text
file as postscript to the printer (If so, where is it located), or is
there some other way of making the printer print postscript? Thanks in
advance.

[Hardware is a 1M RAM MacPlus w/ 20M Hard Disk, Laserwriter I]
[System 6.0.2, Laserwriter 4.0]

The "widgets" utility that comes with DiskTop (published by CE Software)
will do what you want IF the PostScript files are complete and don't
depend on a non-standard header. If the system that generated the
PostScript has a header file that is assumed by the PostScript you want
to print, you may have to prepend that to the file you send to the
LaserWriter.

By the way, DiskTop is an *excellent* DA. I use it constantly. I've
got version 3.0.4 (I think). I've heard that an upgraded version 4 is
about to be released.

DiskTop should be available at all of the popular mailorder houses.
