I am trying to find an intelligent way to network about 30 Macs to about 30 Suns. My main objectives are: - send & receive email from the Macs - let the Macs print to a UNIX postscript printer and/or the Suns print to a Laserwriter - allow the Macs to use a Sun as a fileserver - enable the Macs to open a terminal emulation window onto Suns Most of the Macs will have Ethernet cards, but a few won't (i.e. they'll be on a LocalTalk network). Also, I would eventually like to be able to run the Mac X window software, so the networking solution I'm looking for should allow for this. The 3 vendors that I'm considering are Cayman (GatorBox), IPT (uShare), and Kinetics (FastPath). If anyone has found a good solution to this type of problem before (I'm sure someone has done this!) or if people have used any of the products above and want to share their experience with me I would be most appreciative. Please send replies via email. If there is interest, I will post a summary (including my final choice). Thanks in advance for the help. --Kemi ------------------------------------ Kemi Jona jona@eecs.nwu.edu Institute for the Learning Sciences 1890 Maple Ave. Room 304 Evanston, IL 60201 (312) 491-3500 ext. 7100 ------------------------------------
