Can some detail the differences between the Academic version
of MS Word for the MAC and the retail version.

Retail Word -> Word disks, and ALL manuals
Academic Word -> Word disks, all manuals EXCEPT the tutorial/intro guide

Of course, they will sell you the intro/tutorial for $25, as I recall. They
offer an upgrade program for the Academic version also--$5.50 if you purchased
Academic Word on or after 8/1/88; $40.50 if you purchased before 8/1/88. The
Academic Upgrade (3.0x -> 4.0) is good until 12/31/90, according to my
materials.

As far as i can tell, for new copies, the only difference is that you
don't get a copy of SuperPaint 1.1. You get a registration card to send
into MS like everybody else.

For academic _upgrades_, you don't get a registration card, but you _do_
get SuperPaint 1.1 (upgradable to 2.0 for $50). This means that as far
as MS is concerned, you still own the old version. So, if you want to get
free or cheap upgrades in the future, you have to go through a university.
You can also upgrade directly through MS, but it's more expensive.
