I hope buy a 40 meg hard drive in the near future. Anyone have any recommendations? Any drives I should especially try to avoid? Any companies I should try to avoid. Please respond via E-mail and I'll post a compilation of the responses for the benefit of the net. -------------------------------------------------------- Joe Houghtaling jh0576@leah.albany.edu

Once again, I might get flamed for this, but avoid Seagates at all cost! Companies that sell drives with Seagate mechanisms include CMS, Ehman and Everex, among others. Quantum drives are a little more expensive, about $600 for 40 megs, but they come with - get this - a FIVE YEAR warranty. Make sure that the drive you're getting was made within the last month, though, because there was a design flaw in earlier versions that caused all the trouble you might have read about here. --- Alex UUCP: {att,backbones}!ucbvax!franny!c8s-an INTERNET: c8s-an%franny.berkeley.edu@ucbvax.berkeley.edu FIDONET: Alex.Lau@bmug.fidonet.org (1:161/444)

I know the symptoms, surely somebody knows the cause. Specifically, I'm not talking about "stiction" or "dead spots" on the drive motor. I want to know why the drive spins up but the Mac can't find it! ---------- Nino Mateos nino@dtc.hp.com
