My father-in-law is thinking of buying one of the HP printers to use with his Mac, so he got some promotional literature from them. He tells me the promotional literature claims complete PostScript support, but I though the HP DeskJet, DeskWriter, etc. did not interpret PostScript. Can somebody clear this up? --Mark

The DeskWriter comes with a QuickDraw driver. It can do many of the
same graphic effects as PostScript, but it is most definitely *not*
a PostScript printer. There are Mac-based PostScript interpreters
now available that ought to work with the DeskWriter, but these are
likely to add about $300 to the price. The DeskJet and DeskJet Plus
speak HPPL (HP Printer Language) and require a third party QuickDraw
driver for use with a Mac.

There is a product called "Freedom Of The Press" from Custom Applications Inc. that allows you to print PostScript files out on a DeskJet, LaserJet, and many other printers (and hopefully in the near future, on the DeskWriter). The DeskWriter comes with it's own outline fonts and supports Adobe's Type Manager, but doesn't have any built in PostScript support. Steven Miller Vancouver Division Hewlett Packard

The HP Laserjet II series has an option for a postscript board at an additional cost. List price for the JetScript (postscript board) is $2795. ___ ___ _________ Butch Anton /_ /| /_ /| /_______ /| Development Engineer |##| | ##| | |########| | Hewlett-Packard |##| |__##| | |##| L_##| | U.S.nail: General Systems Division |##|/___##| | |##|/__##| | M/S 47UX |#########| | |########|/ 19447 Pruneridge Ave. |##| | ##| | |##| | Cupertino, CA 95014 |##| | ##| | |##| | |##|/ ##|/ |##|/ E-mail: banton@hpda.hp.com ; hpda!banton ---- -- ---- AT&T mail: 447-5921@408.Pac.Hell
