I am using a Mac SE/30 with a MIDI interface (the one that Kirk Austin publishedin MacTutor). The problem is that sometimes when I run the first MIDI appli- cation, the MIDI interface "goes nuts" and sends out garbage. My Yamaha piano (CLP-300) hangs up completely, and my drum machine (RX-5) says "MIDI DATA ERROR!". When I quit from the application, the problem does NOT go away--it seems like I have to power off the SE/30 and start over, and that may or may not solve the problem. It is very random and unpredictable. Up to now, I have not been sure whether the problem is in the MIDI interface or the Mac, but I just talked to a friend who said he heard about some problem with SE/30's and the serial ports not getting initialized properly for the MIDI drivers. Has anyone else had or heard of this problem? Is there something I can do (a program to run) that will properly initialize the serial ports? I am running Vision and Deluxe Music Construction Set, (one at a time, uni- Finder) and my MIDI interface is plugged into the modem port. I am not using AppleTalk. Any help or advice would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. As usual, post or EMail replies. I'll get them either way.
