I am looking for information on the merits/demerits of the CalComp ColorMaster vs. the HP PaintJet. The intended use is business graphics (histograms, etc) on transparent stock. I know little about either piece of hardware so all info will be useful. Please reply by mail. Thanks. This summer I worked with a CalComp Samurai DX slide imager, and I am not impressed with the company. The Samurai used a customized version of NAPLPS, so I could not write a converter to/from NAPLPS/SIGHT to any other format, like GIF or PICT. The only available software was the CalComp Image-I program, which underutilized the (purported) specs of the imager, besides being slow and clumsy. I tried to contact CalComp about their product, and was told that they had no information. They no longer make the Samurai, and refused to release any technical information on its drivers or software. I believe CalComp has a good reputation in some circles, but my experience with their slide imager would not lead me to recommend a color printer from CalComp. These are my opinions: they in no way represent the opinions of Harvey Mudd College, nor those of the students who have worked for CalComp engineering clinics at Harvey Mudd College. -- tad -- "mblakele@jarthur.claremont.edu"
