Hello, Looking through MacWeek I found an ad by ClubMac that lists a Maxtor 380 meg, 14.5 ms (internal) drive for $1525. This sounds like a GREAT deal for a drive of that size!!! However, since I have never heard of Maxtor before, I didn't jump on the phone and order one. Instead, I phoned ClubMac and asked for more info on the drive. They told me that the drive is full-height and has a mean-time-between-failure of 30,000 hours. Isn't that a little low for hard drives? If you have any past experience or comment on Maxtor drives, or have any suggestion for me on this matter, please reply. I am very tempted to order the drive... * Andy Lee * +----------------------------+------------------------------------------------+ | Andy A. No that is not low for hard drives it is about average, the highest I have seen is 50,000 the lowest 15,000 > > If you have any past experience or comment on Maxtor drives, I'm surprised you have never heard of Maxtor!, they are one of the biggest names in HD's. They make very good drives. I don't think that price is so great I have seen cheaper here in Silicon Valley, but for your area it may be a good price. -- ]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]] TIM SIMMONS (408)434-2843 Unisys Network Computing Group - San Jose CA tims@starfish.convergent.com

I've used the Maxstor 4380 (380M) EDSI drive in a couple of IBM PC application with out any problems. We're using them with the EDSI interface, but I doubt that tit will make much difference. It clocks out at 15-18ms... We've also been using this drive with our Sun 3/50 and 3/60s without any problem, either. I beleive that we've got some kind of SCSI<->ESDI controller cause we use the same drives in the PCS as the Suns. It's a full height 5 1/2 drive. It does seem to run a bit warm in my PC, but I haven't seen any bad side affects. More misc ramblings from... -- Jeff Wasilko wasilko@netcom.uucp uunet!apple!netcom!wasilko netcom!wasilko@apple.com
