i recently took my mac II in for a floppy drive upgrade to 1.44 M and the technician at the computer store told me that the inside of my mac was covered with dust and that the power supply was near burning out. i assume that this situation came about because i left my mac II on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the past year or so. i intend to do this again but i'm concerned about the dust build-up. can i put some sort of filters over the intake air vents on the mac II's case to prevent dust from entering the machine? i would assume that this would be easier than vacuuming the inside of my mac. i could easily clean the air filters. the air speed created by the mac II's fan seems to be more than sufficient for cooling my setup: 40M HD, 8M RAM, double internal floppy drives, 256 color board, so it would seem that i could afford a slight reduction in air speed caused by the usage of air filters (what i had in mind was my wife's old nylons). is this okay? -dave- hairston@henry.ece.cmu.edu
