Actually, I'd like to know if there is VI out there for the MAC. I'm about to start on a Mac project and I'm dreading learning some Mouse based Text Editor. Please help. E-mail will be appreciated! --Emuleomo O.O. (emuleomo@yes.rutgers.edu) -- ** Research is what I'm doing when I dont know what I'm doing! **

Actually, I'd like access to VI on the Mac also. The regular expression editor, once you've learned to use it, is a very powerful tool. I've wasted a lot of time downloading/uploading large (>1MB) text files from/to our Apollo just to use the regular expressions editing facility in VI. -- Brian ==== Brian K. There is a "vi clone" for Mac, callec "z", from Manx. It (used to?) run only under the Aztec shell. Apple's own editor with regular expressions (and a lot else) is called MPW. -- Gerald A. It uses two forms of GREP (regular GREP and Easy-GREP), plus traditional plain-Jane searches, and best of all you don't have to give up the Mac-friendly interface! It's available from Paragon Concepts... Blake (saving his money) Sobiloff -- ******************************************************** * Blake "Hey, where's *MY* fancy .signature?" It is a pretty good vi for the Mac. It should be available on most of the major commercial BBSs or local Macintosh BBS. If you can't find it, it is available on MacScience BBS on (408) 866-4933. >I'm about to start on a Mac project and I'm dreading learning > some Mouse based Text Editor. >> >>Boy are you about to get flamed...! Some of us have gotten used to vi...Some of us have gotten used to uEmacs... I for one continue to use vi on almost every platform that I have available. It is typically quite compact and quite fast and easily obtainable on most platforms, even on the mac. After all, there is something to be said about a common interface ;^). There _is_ a vi clone available for the mac that is called STEVIE. It is not a complete implementation but it does handle regular expressions quite well (thanks to henry spencer's regexp lib). STEVIE (ST Editor for VI Enthusiasts) was originally written on an Atari (gasp;^) ST but was ported to the Mac some months ago. You should be able to find it in the Info-mac archives at sumex or on the listserver at rice. __________________________________________________________________ Randy Thompson uunet!smsdpg!rht SMS Data Products Group, Inc. - or - 703/648-9400 rht@smsdpg.UUCP __________________________________________________________________

Whenever I want to use regular expressions, I just use the editor built into LSC... -Ted

Ha! this reminds me of a joke Back in 1905 a Ford agent comes to a farmer in the mid-west to try an sell him a Ford-T. He shows him the car and explains all about the way it works, and after an hour of explanations he asks the farmer, "any questions?" "just one," the farmer replys "how do you tie to horses?" O.S.
