[comp.sys.mac] HP DeskWriter Performance

Richard.Berg@f2811.n206.z1.FIDONET.ORG (Richard Berg) (09/16/89)

I just recently acquired an HP Desk Writer ($849) for my SE. It's real,
real nice and reasonably fast. Probably faster than a Post Script Printer
and the outline fonts are wonderful. Now, if only system 7.0 would show
up. BTW, does anyone know of a good spooler which can be used w/ the Desk
Writer???

Could someone briefly summarize exactly what the protocol is between
a MAC and a DeskWriter. I have a DeskJet and MacPrint SW, and understand
that the print driver takes my QuickDraw and maps it onto HP LaserJet (e.g.
"PCL" commands) which are sent to the DeskJet. What is the process with
a DeskWriter? How much is performance dependent on the Mac's CPU rate,
the serial link (9600 baud for Classic Macs....), and the printer head
speed?
