Hi, Well, I finally solved my tape backup prblem. To give a short description of the problem: I have a TEAC N50 (Macproduct 150 meg tape backup unit). I couldn't get it to work with Fastback II (Errors 110,120,150). With retrospect, it eith hung after 60 or so meg or would give random I/O errors (Error -36), sometimes, it would die with the error (Hardware error=203 tape speed too slow). Well, I returned the drive (It was brand new), got a new one back and it still did it. It turns out to be SCSI TERMINATION!! My setup was as follows: Mac---Internal Disk----External Disk---------Teac (Term built in) (Term built in) (NOT TERMINATED!) So I had a device AFTER the last terminated device on the bus...Solution? Move the Teac before the External HD......Works great now. Drive is super fast, Fastback II is 2.4 meg/minute (With compression), Retrospect is 4-5meg/min (Without compression)...Oddly enough though, FB II is only marginally faster with compression turned off (either off or set to save time). I still find it hard to believe 150+meg fits on a tape that looks exactly like a phillips cassette!!!! BTW, Retrospect actually wrote 166 meg on a 150 meg tape..... ================================================================== Phil Hunt "Wherever you go, there you are!!!" Phil, I saw your message here and I just wanted to say hello. I'm glad you were finally able to figure out what was causing these problems. I find it amazing that so many problems can be solved by just changing the order of the devices. Then you start wondering how it even worked at all before. Let me know if you have any other questions about Retrospect. Walt Hays / CIS: 73367,2416 Technical Support / Connect: dantz Dantz Development Corp. / AppleLink: D0011 / Internet: ...pyramid!cdp!dantz
