here it is:
I ahve a mac II....I want to buy some memory.
Can I put in 6 256K SIMMS and 2 1-Meg SIMMS? Will it work?

  In Macintosh 020 & 030 based machines you have to populate the memory
banks in groups of 4 identical size/speed memory. You can add, 256K, 1024K,
4096K, 16,000K, simms. But they all have to be the same when they are in
the same bank of memory.

{note: I did read the discussion on mixing memory speeds, for simplicity
       sake I'm not going to recommend people mix memory speeds, cause then
       if it don't work, they'll get mad at me. }

  Hope this helps.

I'm sorry to inform you that such configuration will not work. (at least for
the Mac II). Only for of each type of simms will be accepted and they have
to be of the same speed.

Further more, if you have 4 256K simms and 4 1meg simms installed, the
4 1 meg simms have to be in the lower four slots while the 256 in the upper
four slots.
