I am trying to network three computers, a Mac Plus, a '386 clone, and either a cx or a ci (depending on what is available next week). I also want to put the Imagewriter II on the network, so that even the lowly IBM can use it (surely an IBM can use the Imagewriter, can't it?). So, I'd really appreciate it if I could get some input from you guys as to what sort of hardware and software combinations you have tried and what you liked and what you didn't. For instance I found a brochure on something called Lap-Link tonight, but I have friends who have used TOPS with great success. And it seems like there is some sort of hardware that is required for the Imagewriter, but I'm not sure exactly what. Is there some special software needed for the IBM to use an Imagewriter? Just exactly what *is* the difference between LocalTalk and AppleTalk? Color me clueless on this stuff. Email would be the best for me. I'll summarize if there is any interest. Terry Disclaimer: Hell, I'm an undergraduate, not even my department pays any attention to what I say.
