I normally use New Baskerville fonts for my documents. BUT when I tried to print a document with this font on a LaserWriter II, a dialog popped up with the message: "Error : invalidprinter : OffendingCommand: fontdownload". Does this mean I can't use the font or is there a way around this problem? (Will I need to sacrifice a hard drive just to use four fonts?) The laserwriter font utility also fails to download to this printer. System software: system 4.2 finder 6.0 laserwriter 5.2 laser prep (supplied with laserwriter resource above) laserwriter font util 1.0 Keith Farrar ParcPlace Systems Palo Alto, CA PS: I tried asking a couple of the area apple dealers, but they didn't have a clue as to what's wrong.

You have probably been inundated with responses by now, but in case you haven't, I will send a short response. From your description it sounds as though you have used this font previously on another printer. When you try to initialize the font for more than one printer it wont let you because the font can only be used on one printer. Adobe sold fonts originally for useage in 1 or 5 printer versions. Once you consumed the number of uses, by installing it on that number of printers, the font could not be used again elsewhere. That is the way they are made. Today, I believe, Adobe sells fonts with no limits, that may be used any number of times, but that doesn't help you. In any event the invalid printer message means that there are no more uses left in the font in question. --Bayles Holt

I know there seem to be constant requests for format specifications but after scanning 800+ back messages I couldn't seem to find what I needed. My friend has a scanner for a Mac that produces PICT files (PICT2 ?). He wants me to write a utility that will convert such files to RLA format on his Tektronix machine. Unless this already is available in PD, would someone please point me toward the format specifications for PICT? He also does 32bit images if there are different formats (i would need both). Thanks Very much for your help. [please email] --wayne (iba@ics.uci.edu)
