As a followup to my original post, comparing GOfer 1.0 and 2.0 in terms of speed, as someone or other might have suspected, the two do not coexist too well with one another on the same system, and so 2.0 appeared to run much more slowly than 1.0. It was apparently due to the preference files for the two (exactly how is unknown to me). So, GOfer 2.0, when running with its very own preference file (i.e., the 1.0 preference file(s) removed from the system folder), runs at least as well, and as fast, as GOfer 1.0. It is also multifinder friendly, so it no longer mono- polizes the system during the course of its search. -- -- Frank Malczewski (malczews@girtab.usc.edu)
