[comp.sys.mac] freezing screen

Here's one for you.  When transferring older public domain files
from an 800K diskette to the hard drive of my MacIIcx running 
system 6.0.3 the copy dialog box appears, it starts to copy, teases
me about half way, then freezes my screen.  No mouse, no nuttin...
What, pray tell, is the reason?
