Help! I've discovered the only thing worse your hard disk disappearing. It's when the hard disk on your BOSS's Macintosh disappears! He's livid, I'm charged with making it work... and I've already tried everything I know. It's an Apple-branded Seagate 40 meg assembly, about 18 months old, inside a 'classic' Mac II. Ran fine yesterday; today, the internal drive light flashes briefly on power-up, then you get the blinking question mark. No hard disk icon on the Desktop, obviously. From floppies, I've tried: Apple HD SC Setup no SCSI disk found Disk First Aid 'Drive' button never highlights 1st Aid Kit 'Drive' button never highlights Fedit Plus 'Drive' button never highlights MacTools Drive doesn't display SCSI Probe cdev SCSI ID 0 displays a single dot with the message 'in use - no data' I don't have SUM, but I plan to buy it this morning as soon as the stores open. Not sure if it will help, though. I tried moving the hard disk/controller assembly over to another Mac II in the office, with identical results. My boss hasn't backed this thing up in over a year (yes, I know, I know...) and it's pretty important to get the data off of it. I don't care if we have to junk it and buy a new one afterwards. Suggestions would be dramatically welcomed! +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Stephen Fleming | Internet: fleming@cup.portal.com | | Director, Technology Marketing | Voice: (703) 847-7058 | | Northern Telecom +-------------------------------------| | Federal Networks Division | Opinions expressed are not | | Vienna, Virginia 22182 | those of Northern Telecom. | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+
