[comp.sys.mac] Emac hard disks vs. holding mouse dow

Daniel McKinnon asks:

>(Does anyone want to buy a Jasmine DirectDrive 45? For about $550?)

No thanks. I can get sturdier doorstops for much less $$$. 8-)
Seriously, I finally talked Jasmine into trading me my on-death's-doorstep
DD45, which was only a year old but in which the HDA was only a few months
old (can you say, three HDA swaps in one year?), for a brand spanking new
DD40. Yeah, I lost about three megabytes of storage space in the swap.
Also, the DD45 I bought cost $799, while a new DD40 only costs $699 ($599
during Jasmania! until the end of the year), so I feel I lost some money
on the deal. On the bright side, they gave me a brand spanking new 2 year
warranty to go with the new DD40. So in the end, I will have had three
years of warrantied service on a Jasmine drive, with only some semi-minor
annoyances. Well, not-so-semi-minor. Anyway, anyone thinking about
buying Jasmine, be sure to ask friends about recent service dealings.
When I bought my drive, and it went out the first time in two months,
their service dept. was EXCELLENT. This was 9/88. Since then, they've
gone way downhill. I think they're on their way back up, but beware. Let
someone else find out how their service dept. is doing currently.
