#R:utcsrgv:-293700:hpcnoa:30500003:000:789 hpcnoa!rdg Dec 22 08:35:00 1983 If you want to hear some good "classical" music that was composed recently (ie, in the last 30 years), try the music of Alan Hovhaness: His well known "Mysterious Mountain Symphony" is as good as anything composed in the 20th century. Also, Rodrigo (of Concierto de Aranjuez fame) was still composing in the 60's (and maybe later, but I don't know.) Anyway, he wrote several other guitar concerti besides the well known "Aranjuez," and it's quite a shame that his others are relatively obscure; His Concierto de Andaluz, composed in 196?, is easily as good as Aranjuez. These two composers, I think, are a couple of the best of the "modern day" composers: they write MUSIC, unlike the likes of a Cage or Stockhausen. Flames welcome.
