[comp.sys.mac] 1.4 meg floppy format

elrond@titan.tsd.arlut.utexas.edu (Brad Hlista) (10/12/89)

A friend of mine is having problems formatting a 1.4 meg floppy. When the
drive is done and the format is complete, we end up with an 800k disk. Can
someone please describe the procedure? What type of floppy, what program,
etc?
We have not been able to find anything in the manuals that we have and
would appreciate any information regarding a 1.4 meg floppy format.

Sounds like you're not using 1.4 meg floppies in the drive, 1.4's are
different than standard 800K disk, they have an extra hole that lets the
drive "know" what kind of disk it is.

If you don't use 1.4 meg floppies in the drive, then all you'll get is
800K disk.

  Hope this helps.

Funny, it sounded to me like he wasn't using a 1.4 meg drive.
