I have a stumper for all you MacExperts. A friend of mine recently upgraded her Plus to 2.5M (6.0.3). With all that extra memory, she began using Multifinder. All was going well for her (and still is), except for one peculiar thing that happens when she runs Excel 1.5 under Multifinder. She has the "Application memory size" set to the recommended 512k, yet Excel SEEMS to be taking up more space than this -- much more. I say "seems" because when she selects "About the Finder" from the Apple menu, the Finder reports that Excel is occupying its allotted 512k, but the "Largest available block" of free memory has decreased by about 1 Meg. That's right: 500k are unaccounted for! I've seen it myself, and, as far as I can tell, she's not doing anything wrong. Say the Finder reports that she has a "Largest available block" of 2 Meg. You would expect that if she immediately loads Excel, she would have about 1.5 Meg left. Right? But no. She ends up with a "Largest available block" of only 1 Meg. The Finder doesn't say what happened to the other 1/2 Meg of memory. She says Excel is the only program she has that does this. If any of you MacExperts have any ideas, you can mail them to me, and I'll pass them along. Thanks. dp
