[comp.sys.mac] How do de-sit/de-bin

I know questions similar to this have been hacked to death, but I am a knowledgable user of both binhex and stuffit and this problem remains.  On ftp sites like sumex, there are files that read _bin_sit and on other sites there are files that read _sit.  Now, before, files were only bin and things were nice and easy to unpack.  But now, I cannot figure out how to unpack the files.  Using binhex does not work.  Using stuffit does not work.  What do I do?
