[comp.sys.mac] Want background server INIT

bskendig@phoenix.Princeton.EDU (Brian Kendig) (10/18/89)

A few months ago someone posted a beta version of a background
fileserver INIT here. This INIT allows a Macintosh running under
MultiFinder to act just like an AppleShare file server, but with the
major difference that where AppleShare requires a dedicated machine to
act as the server, the background fileserver can be running other
applications while it is serving files.

Problem is, I let the INIT get by me, and now I could really use it.
Would someone please either report it (preferred) or just mail a copy
of it to me, or maybe announce where I can find it in an ftp site
somewhere?

Thank you.

If you're talking about SingleShare, that posting was a call for beta testers,
and an announcement.

Release of the first semi-real version is still about a month away.

BTW, there is an INIT but you don't actually need it. Launch the application,
publish a folder, and you're up and running.
The one major problem I have is that SingleShare needs the Desktop Manager.
Apple Germany doesn't even officially admit that it exists at all, and
therefore seems somewhat reluctant to let me license it for distribution.
