A friend of mine has asked me to post this message: I am a technical illustrator using Adobe Illustrator 88 on a Mac II to create mostly isometric views of mechanical components for publication. The design engineer in my division creates his 3D geometry in CADKEY running on a Compaq 386. CADKEY produces files formatted in IGES and HPGL. My question is: How may I most efficiently make use of the engineering 3D geometry, and its viewing options (orthographic, isometric, perspective) to create my illustrations? Are there programs that convert PC HPGL to Mac PostScript? Should I set my views up in CADKEY, print them out, then scan them for templates? What in your view is the optimal solution? Please email me any responses. Thanks in advance for any information you can give. -Keith Rowell, Tektronix, Wilsonville, OR keithr@orca.WV.TEK.COM

One method might be to capture the CADKEY screens into encapsulated postscript, transfer it to the mac, and read it into Adobe Illustrtator. (From a response to an earlier article): I don't know any PD ones that will let you do this; two commercial products that come to mind are Pizazz Plus (sp. ?) which is around $150, supports many printer types etc. and SCRtoPS which is about $40 but supports only postscript. You should be able to read in the encapsulated postscript files created by either in PageMaker. I don't know what Corel Draw can handle, so won't comment on it. Pizzazz Plus is available from Application Techniques 508-433-5201. SCRtoPS is available from Offe Enterprises 312-357-6679. Venu P. Gopal UUCP: ..!att!ihuxy!vgopal Internet: vgopal@ihuxy.att.com
