[comp.sys.mac] SuperMac Spectrum/8 video card Saga...

wj4@prism.gatech.EDU (JOYE,WILLIAM A) (10/25/89)

A few reasons why you may wish to buy another ventors video card...

The saga begins...

- Lets order a 19" color monitor and 8 bit video card for our Mac IIcx's,
  a Spectrum/8...

and guess what shows up - a OLD Spectrum/8 (which has been out of production
for about a year) OK, we try it anyways, oops, it will not fit...

A call to SuperMac Tech support - Number has been disconnected, OK...

Get a number from a recent SuperMac ad, and after several trys, yes,
we have reached Tech support and guess what, the Spectrum/8 will not
fix a Mac IIcx (no s**t).

- Return video cards, for new and improved Spectrum/8 series II cards...

- And new cards arrive, and guess what, NO CABLES. I guess everybody has a
set of special DB15 to 4 coax 75ohm RGB lying around. (ps, the orginal
cards came with the proper cables, but, silly me, I sent them back)

- No problem, we'll call SuperMac and order the proper cables...

Called SuperMac (new phone number, they change it every week to keep us
on our toes). Get list of authorized dealers (no, SuperMac will not
deal with you directly). Call a few "authorized dealers". get standard
"we are not really a dealer, we just sell the products, not service them".
OK, finally find a "dealer" who will at least try to get cables.

"Dealer" can't find proper item number. Call SuperMac (this is getting old)
After several trys, get item number. Call "dealer". Dealer can't order
  item. (great!)

- Give up and call local Billy Bobs Feed and Seed/ Computer supplies. They make
special cables. Looks like crap, but they seem to work.

- FINALLY, my 19" monitor comes to life... It lives... ALMOST!

- Try AUX 1.1 - Master La Bomba... try reinstall from floppies ( and hours
later) alright AUX boots. OK, try to configure in net stuff...
  Master La Bomba...

- Call (guess who?) SuperMac. New number ( of course). Guess what, no one
had ever tried the video card for AUX in a non-virgin form. It don't
work with AUX 1.1 (no s**t). Patch is in the works. No OFFICAL release
  date...

- Call S****M** a week later, still no patch, no release date.

- Sent EMail, no response...

- Dial in to SuperMac BBS, send message, no response, no release date.

- Call *****! get machine, beg, plead, threaten, please, oh please let me
  have a patch... no response...

So the story continues, while the the rest of the world is using
Color X windows with AUX 1.1
with their video cards, I sit and wonder WHY ME, or still, Why did I buy
a SuperMace Video card...
