[comp.sys.mac] Multifinder "background" programs

dce@sony.com (David Elliott) (10/27/89)

I have a number of programs that are meant to display information or
graphics on the screen without being very useful alone. There's
MacEyes, the spinning globe programs, NavCom, MFRuler, and I'm sure
more.

The problem I have is that these show up just like any other
application. That is, they come to the front when I cycle through the
applications, and they show up in the ApplicationMenu menu.

What I would like is a way to say "this application should never come
up in the cycle", and, if possible, a way to tell ApplicationMenu that
the application should appear at the bottom of the menu, maybe
separated from the rest by a dotted line.

Am I just missing a feature of Multifinder that I should know about, or
is there no concept of a "detached background process" on the Mac?
