[comp.sys.mac] What is SFScrollInit???

glf@sppy00.UUCP (Hill) (10/27/89)

At the risk of sounding foolish ...

When I bought my Mac Plus (used, about 6 months ago) it came with a hard drive
that had lots of Free/ShareWare on it, some with documentation, some without.
I'm slowly figuring out what a lot of the undocumented stuff is and how to use
it. One of these without docs is SFScrollInit (which I have loading just
because it's there).

Now either it does something rather subtle, or I'm not very observant,
but I can't seem to figure out what it does or how to use it. Would some
kind person please give me a bit of background and usage info on SFScrollInit?

FYI, I've got a 1 Meg Mac Plus, which is about 1.5 years old, a 20Meg Dataframe
external hard drive, and am using System 4.? (I think it was the last of
the 4 series).

Thanks,
       Greg

P.S.
What is this Boomerang program I've seen discussions about? Is this something
everyone should have (and if so, where can I get it)?

SFScrollInit was written by Andy Hertzfeld. Have you noticed that
every time you call up a Standard File dialog (e.g., by choosing Open
within an application), the list of files is in alphabetical order and
it is positioned with the first file at the top of the little window.
Well, SFScrollInit makes the system remember where you were the last
time you looked in that folder with Standard File, and puts you back
in the same place. So you don't have to scroll through the list every
time. Doesn't sound like much, but one can sure get sick of scrolling
through the list.

Definitely. Until I finally switched to Boomerang (replacing both
SFScrollInit and SFVolinit) this little init made life a lot easier.
Sometimes the simple things are the best...
