[comp.sys.mac] 6.0.4 flames

phil@vaxphw.enet.dec.com (Phil Hunt) (10/26/89)

Hi,

Well, we have all beaten the new installer to death, I have some other flames
on the new system...

NOTHING SEEMS FIXED AS PER CHANGES DOCS!!!! From little stuff to large stuff!

Example:

Docs say Responder will now ask for name for 'Mac' instead of 'Workstation' as
'Apple doesn't make workstations HEHEHE' (Quote). Well, after my installation
I was greeted by message "Please name your workstation" ?????

Docs say Ether usage for Appletalk will no longer interfere with printer
port. Well, it still does!! I see no difference on the serial port already
opened even though I use an Etherport II Board...

Apple, any comments?

I, too, noticed a number of problems with 6.04. Enough that I went back
to 6.03.

Two of the more troublesome were that windows were not being
repainted/refreshed as they should have been (but closing the window and
reopening it fixed the problem) and disk access hangs (the Mac would hang
while continuously accessing the hard disk).

I installed 6.04 twice, once over 6.03 and once after trashing the old
system files. The problems didn't go away until I went back to 6.03.

You must be using EtherTalk 2.0 to get your printer port back. Just
installing 6.0.4 won't do it.

I believe that you need to do one of two things to get the new responder:

1. install AppleShare from the customize screen
2. install it manually.

Hope this helps.
