[comp.sys.mac] PublicFolder1.0 Breaks AppleTalk Stuff

mdh@srhqla.SR.COM (Matt Hardin) (10/31/89)

My thanks to Claris for releasing the PublicFolder INIT. It is a quality piece
of software that addresses a sore need amongst networked Macs. I am having a
problem with it, though. When PublicFolder is allowed to install, NCSA Telnet
stops working, and we are no longer able to print to lwsrv on our Unix box.
Since both of these involve our GatorBox, I'm wondering if maybe that has
something to do with it or if other people are seeing odd things happen on
their networks as a result of this INIT.

Please E-mail and I'll summarize if there's any interest.

Thanks in advance.

Add my congratulations to Claris. I just got a new Mac, and transfering
stuff from the old to the new is A LOT easier with PublicFolder than with
dozens of floppies.

I have Public Folder installed on all our Appletalk machines, along with
Dumper, Broadcast, TOPS, AppleShare, Responder, Public Folder, and NCSA
Telnet (obviously, not everything on each machine). Nothing has broken,
and printing hasn;t been affected. This is with a FastPath 3, although I
doubt that would make any difference. I'd start looking for other inits or
cdevs that might be causing the problem.
