[comp.sys.mac] NCSA Telnet & VT100 - HELP!

18215MES@MSU.BITNET (10/31/89)

I recently acquired an Ethernet card for my 2cx, and before this, I
would access the MAINframe (ibm 3090) with versaterm - in vt100 mode.
the keypad would function normally as a VT100, and pf keys acted ok.
Now, however, the NCSA telnet program, which is supposed to emulate
a VT102 keyboard, will not send the proper code sequences to emulate
the proper PF keys. It seems to display some control characters on
the screen when a keypad key is struck, but dowsn't actually SEND
the sequence to the mainframe - I think I have to hit return to send it,
and then it doesn't accept it?? Hope this makes sense. In anycase,
versaterm VT100 emulation (over dialup lines) would work, but NCSA
VT100 emulation (over ethernet) doesn't seem to.
The tn3270 program seems to work fine, but the keypad is programmed
in a completely different arrangement than a vt100 keypad.
Is there a way to program the keypad in NCSA telnet?
Am I doing something wrong, or missing something? The communication
support folks at the Computer Center Don't support the NCSA telnet
for the 3090...? Any ideas/comments? Thanks, Mark Sartor
