I just got my upgrade yesterday; here's a quick review:

The upgrade contains DiskTop 4.0 and GOfer 2.0. It was a wonderful
surprise to get GOfer 2.0, since I was considering buying it (I think
it sells for around $60 from MacConnection). DiskTop itself has been
enhanced in a number of subtle, but important ways, although the
interface has remained largely the same.

One of the biggest enhancements was to add a launch facility much like
OnCue's: from the Apple menu, or by clicking anywhere with a certain
combination of modifier keys held down, you get a menu that allows you
to launch any application or document. Applications and documents are
easily added to the menu, either through DiskTop or the DT Launch
Apple menu choice. DT Launch also allows you to launch any arbitrary
application, even if it hasn't been added to the menu.

There's also a way to go directly to DiskTop's Find File dialog from
the Apple menu, avoiding the main DiskTop screen. Both the DT Launch
and DiskTop Find "DAs" can appear at the top of the Apple menu (a la
Suitcase), or sorted with your other DAs.

DiskTop now allows you to manipulate the files you find (via Find
File) or see in a directory window: you can print or save a listing
of these files to a text file.

Lots of other nice touches have been added. For example, you can now
create a new folder while copying or moving files, which saves a
surprising amount of time. Disks can be unmounted from within DiskTop
-- no more dragging floppy icons to the trash. You can access/set
AppleShare privileges. The DiskTop window itself is resizable (via a
standard grow box). And there's more -- I only played with it for 15
minutes last night, so I'm sure I overlooked some other goodies.

The enhancements to DiskTop alone were worth the $30 upgrade fee, but
in addition CE Software includes GOfer 2.0, the full-text retrieval
DA. As I said, this was something I was considering buying, so to
have it included for the price of an upgrade was especially nice.
GOfer works well and is quite speedy, and although I only did a couple
of searches, I am very impressed with it.

All in all, the DiskTop 4.0 upgrade is well worth getting. CE
Software remains one of the best Macintosh software companies around,
consistently producing useful, bug-free utilities for reasonable
prices. Needless to say, I a *very* satisfied customer of theirs
(although I am not connected with CE Software in any other way).

Of course, all of this comes from a document that's trying to
convince you to buy the upgrade, so Caveat Emptor.

I don't have anything to do with anybody. Hey, I'm probably just an
AI program from deep within Bell Labs anyways....;-)
