[comp.sys.mac] Why supervisor mode???

Chris.Parson@f54.n382.z1.FIDONET.ORG (Chris Parson) (11/11/89)

This is just speculation, but when the Mac was designed the
concept was "computing appliance". They wanted something that would
be about the computer equivalent of a toaster to operate. So they
neglected to support hard disks ( no HFS ), provided no expansion
capability, and gave programrs access to the entire instruction set,
since they would never need the supervisor mode to do multitasking!
Things have changed!
