I'm seeking information on graphics programs for the Mac. Needs: - Make a wide variety of horizontal and vertical bar charts, as well as scatter graphs. - Be able to add comments anywhere on the chart. We need to be able to specify the location and all font characteristics of the comments. - Have the annotated chart be updated automatically when the user changes the data in the underlying data set. - Publication quality output to a Laserwriter. - Do I need to mention: easy to use... We've been using Cricket Graph, Excel, and MacDraw. (Cricket Graph is easy to use, but lacks sufficient control over the graphics, Excel 1.5 lacks sufficient tools for placing text). The major problem has been that this combination doesn't allow the third need listed above; yet very often we get old plots from our investigators, who say that the plot was fine, but that the numbers have changed. Our graphics person is then faced with spending hours on what ought to be a simple task. I downloaded the Kaleidagraph demo package. It seems to be what we want. I would very much appreciate any comments, especially on whether people have found problems with Kaleidagraph, or whether anyone can recommend an alternative (with a cost cap of $300). I'll post a summary of responses. Thanks very much.
