[comp.sys.mac] Genealogy software

jeric@tybalt.caltech.edu (J. Eric Grove) (09/14/87)

Please forgive me for covering what must be old ground, but I have
just started following this group.

Can anyone recommend a Mac genealogy package? The successful candidate
should be able to handle second marriages, adoptions, name changes, extensive
or minimal notes for individuals, etc.

Please email responses so we don't clutter the net.
Thanks.

If you don't find a commercial package you like, it should be easy to write a
Hypercard stack for this purpose. I am planning to do this for myself when I
get around to it. (Please, I don't want anybody to send me any "round toits"!)

I'm interested in any kind of genealogy software for any of the popular
pc's. A friend (actually a grandmother) is interested in buying a system
to use for her genealogy work, and I figured I'd better find the best
software before I recommended a system.

IMPORTANT: PLEASE RESPOND THROUGH E-MAIL ONLY. This request was posted
to many newsgroups. If you absolutely, positively cannot get the mail to
me, respond in comp.misc ONLY. If there is any interest expressed in the
results my little survey (please express interest through e-mail also) I'll
post a summary of it all...

My address is shown in my .sig below:

There are also a couple of HyperCard stacks for dealing with Genealogy
information. I believe 2 were posted to comp.binaries.mac a while back.

HyperTree -- Pretty simple: enter the names/dates and a page of notes along
with relationships and it will draw a nice tree diagram, or let
you navigate through the family tree.

Genealogy -- Pretty complex: haven't used it much, but it seems to hold a
lot of information. At first glance, the interface to this beast
	is pretty intimidating.

Check your local archives or BBS's if interested in these.
