This is the problem: Each semester, 2200 terrified users take introductory CS courses at Rutgers. Many of them have never touched a computer before. The majority of them have never touched a network before. Predictably, many of them are completely baffled by AppleShare. Almost everyone here connects to the servers using the "Guest" option. "Password, my TA never said anything about any password" Unfortunately the Registered User option is the default and disabling it w/ResEdit does not remove it from view. Does anyone know how to change this default so it can be disabled and removed from view? After they reach the "Select Server volume" dialog box, many 110/111 students panic and start clicking wildly away. In the process they usually manage to check the "checked volumes will be opened at system startup" checkbox. After a couple of sessions, they end up connected to two or three "DCS Course Support" volumes, and the network gets bogged down a bit. Worse Yet, there five DCS Mac labs here in New Brunswick, (4 connected with Kinetics Fastpaths and one connected with a 2400 baud modem) Novice users often end up automaticly connected to two or three severs at a distant location. Then they get frustrated, when things work slowly for them. (Dismantling the Network is not an Option here) If the above checkbox could be disabled, life would be a lot easier. (I can't even find it and I've examined all the appleshare and system DTLs) Finally, THINK Pascal 2.0`s default debugging options do not include Overflow checking and Range Checking (V and R). 111 students making assignments to the 101st element of a 100 element array get the bomb until they find an knowledgable aid. It would be good to permanently enable these options. Please Reply via E-mail. I do follow this group, but I wouldn`t want to miss something. Thanking you in Advance.
