Do any fonts/graphic packages exist for creating medieval calligraphy type documents on the mac? I know that various Gothic fonts will work for the general typsetting, but more importantly, is there any place to find the illuminated first letters that are used at the beginning of the documents? Information Electronics of Ithaca, NY has released a shareware font based on the Book of Kells. It is presently only a bitmap Mac font but I understand that they plan to relase a Postscript type 3 version soon. This font is available by ftp from rascal.ics.utexas.edu or directly from IE. The Kells font does include a set of what they call SuperCaps. These are the Caps used to start a page in old texts. IE can be reached at: Information Electronics 15 Catherwood Rd. #8 Suite 178 Ithaca, NY 14850 I believe that their shareware fee is $20->25.
