I would like to use our Tek 4693 thermal color printer to make transparencies from MacDraw II and Powerpoint. I was looking at going from PICT to GIF, transfer to the SGI workstation (that is where the printer is), and print the GIF output. When I save a MacDrawII file in PICT format, I lose the color (I guess that was to be expected). Powerpoint does not seem to have any way to output PICT, GIF, TIFF, etc. If I save MacDrawII pictures to the scrapbook, they go in as black and white. If I try to save Powerpoint pictures to the scrapbook, I lose the REAL color (if metal look, comes out as yellows, greens, etc) I am using GIFFER 1.03 (this allows me to pull in the scrapbook) Summary: I would like to take MacDraw II and Powerpoint pictures to a Tek 4693 thermal printer (cheaply). I know Tek has a postscript interpretter, but it is a little expensive. -- Louis McDonald The Aerospace Corporation louis@aerospace.aero.org

We offer "option 44" for this printer, a NuBus interface card, cable, chooser-standard driver, and manuals. This package works well with ATM, or uses the 4x screen fonts (provided) as does the LaserWriter IISC. The system does a great job with MacDraw II, although 'Draw II is limited to 8 colors, (RGBCMYWK). The retail on this package is $495.00, street price may be less depending on where you buy. Minimum system requirements are color video, 2MB+ of RAM, (it will work with less, but SLOW!) and an open NuBus slot in a Mac II family machine. The output is good, and it works with everything but Illustrator 88, and Cricket Draw. (Freehand works great.) With ATM, the quality is very close to PostScript, the only drawback is a lack of networkability.
