[comp.sys.mac] How Chip's Friend's AppleShare Problem Can Be Solved

My company has a customer in London that is trying to use an Apple-
Share server. (Well, actually it's a Unix system running CAP acting
ask-user-about-exit as an AppleShare server, but that's not important
    right now.)

Since he had never used AppleShare before, the AppleShare file wasn't
in his system folder. When he put it there, things seemed to work until
he tried to mount the server volume, at which point a message appeared: "AppleShare not completely installed. Boot off an AppleShare client disk
or re-installAppleShare." So he tried booting from his system floppy and,
lo and behold, everything worked fine!

So what does that "not completely installed" message mean? What exactly is
not installed? Please help; booting from floppy is unacceptable as a long-
   term solution.

There are some special sources (i.e. proper Chooser, proper AppleShare prep,
etc.) that need to be installed. For that, you need the Installer. When you
use the Installer, it should have a selection for "AppleShare Workstation
Setup ver. 2.x.x. I assume that your friend is using System 6.0.3. Try it
and see if it works.

Sincerely yours,

Eugene Bradley
