Hi, every one on Mac World:

Does any one hear of the new Fujitsu 3.5" 800k drive ?

Please post any information to here, if any one knows.

I've been looking for a floppy drive to sell to folks who want a
reasonably priced, reliable alternative to the Apple external floppy. I
bought a Fujitsu to evaluate. I used it for a while, and I've given it
to an elementary school to use. That'll be the test. Here's some facts
and opinions:

The box is a little flatter and wider than the Apple drive. It comes
with feet and supports so that it can be set flat, angled up a little,
or on its side. The noises from the drive are less musical than from
the Apple, but it's just as quiet. I didn't use a watch to time it,
but the drive seems to be as fast as Apple's. I opened it up. The
drive is simple mechanically and electronicly(?). And therefore it's
likely to be reliable. It comes with an 18 month warranty -- if you
return your warranty card.

It comes in beige and platinum. I only used it with a Plus, but it's
supposed to work with the SE (and SE/30?), the KE, and the 512K (w the
HD20 Startup file). It's got an eject button. Price? I don't know
what Kerry or her friends will charge. I'll be charging about $225 for
it, with delivery, installation and hand-holding. I'm not trying to
make a sale here, or say that's a rock-bottom mail-order price.

Summary -- I'm going to sell it. If you want me to test or time any
specific function, drop me a line.

Disclaimer -- this is independent of Dartmouth.
