[comp.sys.mac] Hardware Handshaking w/ HST modems

Charles_Hawkins_Mingo@cup.portal.com (11/26/89)

I am seeking advice from anyone with experience in implementing
Hardware Handshaking on a US Robotics HST modem connected to a Mac IIci.
After recently acquiring both an HST modem and Freesoft's White
Knight 11 terminal emulation program, I noticed that both programs
claimed to support HW Handshaking, and recommended it when the DTE-DCE
speed exceeded the DEC-DCE speed (as it does on my setup).
My problem arises from the fact that the Mac uses a DIN-8
connector, which seems to use a different nomenclature than that used in
the HST manual. For example, Apple Macintosh Tech Note #65 variously
refers to pins 1 and 2 as either DTR/DSR or CTS/RTS, which, as I
understand it, are very different things. I gather that, in converting
the DIN-8 connection to DB-25, it is common to interconnect these two
sets of pins.
Anyway, I was wondering if someone else had, by now, confronted this
problem, and could tell me how they did it, or, alternatively, if
someone who was experienced in connecting DIN-8 to DB-25 could explain
it all to me, or could perhaps point me in the direction of a cable that
would do this. Intuatively, I cannot help think that this must be an
easy thing to do, since both White Knight and Zterm purport to allow it.
