MAC-TO-VAX LINK GARNERS SUPPORT FOR APPLE TOOLBOX, By Eric Smalley
Amherst, NH -- White Pine Software has announced upgrades to its
Mac-to-VAX file transfer software and VT terminal emulation software
for the Macintosh.
The Mac VT200 series terminal emulation software now includes
support for the Communications Toolbox from Apple.
The Communications Toolbox will be included with Apple's upcoming
release of version 7.0 of the Macintosh operating system, according to
Scott Darling, White Pine's vice president of marketing. Version 7.0
is scheduled to be released in the first quarter.
"We want to make sure our products are compatible with Apple's
continuing connectivity stategy," he said.
White Pine has the Communications Toolbox, which includes Local Area
Transport (LAT), in-house in beta test, Darling said.
The company also is adding a Telnet driver to its terminal emulation
software.
[Other details, including pricing, are omitted.]
White Pine Software Inc. can be contacted at 94 Route 101A, P.O. Box
1108, Amherst, NH 03031, (603) 886-9050.
Now if they would only put an Ethernet port in my room (can I laugh loudly?).
I've been using Mac240 from White Pine for two years now, and I am very
happy with it. VT200 emulation is as good as it comes, and ReGIS graphics
are acceptable (not great, but then what do you expect from a black-and-white
SE).
Maybe someone can comment on the line about the Telnet driver? Does this
mean that we won't see a Telnet connection tool to go with MacTCP and the
CommToolbox? Or is a third party going to have to provide this one?
