[comp.sys.mac] BASIC compilers other than Microsoft

mck@beach.cis.ufl.edu (Mark Kilby) (11/30/89)

I'm posting this for a friend who doesn't have access to the net.

And the question is ...

Does anyone have knowledge of any BASIC compiler/interpreters other than
Microsoft's that they could recommend. The file handling capabilities
of Microsoft's offerings appear inadequate.

End of message.

Thanks in advance,

One Basic compiler for Mac is ZBasic. Zedcor also has versions out for
Apple II, IBM, and CPM machines.

I've been using the Apple II version and it is a very competent version
of Basic. Support for long functions, call to labels, and no line
numbers is all standard. The commands are common across all version of
ZBasic greatly simplifying porting.

From the manual, the Mac support seems very complete, including built in
support for most of the useful toolbox commands.

Last I saw, it is available for about $95 at your local 800 number.
