[comp.sys.mac] HD drive flaw!

dansnsr@nmtsun.nmt.edu (Daniel A. Church) (12/01/89)

I think I recall this topic being discussed already, but here
goes anyway. I have an SE/30, with a 40 Meg. Internal and one HD drive.
Using the HD drive, I can read both HD Disks and regular 800k disks, but
my HD drive will only format 800k disks, and will attempt to format HD
disks, but will then verify the format and tell me it failed. I've even
tried formatting Apple's own SE/30 tour disk (once I had copied all the
info onto my HD for safe keeping) and it still told me my init. had
failed. Can someone please tell me if this has been discussed before and
what I should do? Is there some fix for this, does the SE/30 have to be
under warranty, or am I just screwed?

Thanks,

Dan Church

I have a Mac IIcx and had the same problems. If you have Copy II Mac,
there is a program that comes with it called MacTools. In MacTools, you
can insert a bad HD disk. It gives you a window and some choices on
what you want to do. Choose Mount Disk and this will fix it for you.
